At one day old the kittens cannot stand. The first milk produced called colostrum is rich in antibodies and will help protect kittens against diseases. If you are giving them dry food you can simply leave a dish of food out and allow kittens to free feed when they re hungry but in this case you ll need to monitor their weight to make sure they re not overeating.
By the end of the first week the kitten has doubled his weight.
This will continue until they gradually transition to solid foods when they are around four weeks old weaning. At one day old the kittens cannot stand. These antibodies last for six weeks or more. When kittens are first born they are completely helpless.
